After the Standard OpenDRIVE® (description of road networks) was transferred to ASAM e.V. in September 2018, the contracts to transfer OpenCRG® (description of road surfaces) and OpenSCENARIO® (description of participant behavior) were signed end of October. With this act, the formats for both static and dynamic contents for driving Simulation applications are now under the auspices of ASAM. International Simulation experts have already discussed important requirements for the further development of the so called “OpenX Standards” during Kick-off Workshops hosted by ASAM.

The standardization organization ASAM e.V. will adopt several standards for the Validation of highly-automated driving. OpenDRIVE® is the first Standard that has now been transferred into ASAM. It constitutes the new ASAM standardization domain „Simulation” and will be continued under the name of ASAM OpenDRIVE. The standards OpenCRG® and OpenSCENARIO® will follow within the next months. The transfer of these standards into ASAM ensures their independent, long-term development and maintenance in a professional setting. At the same time, it allows ASAM to position itself in the area of highly automated driving.

Taking part in standardization projects and running for office in ASAM bodies is voluntary and generates costs for the participating member company. ASAM has introduced a "Credit Voucher Concept" that appreciates support of its members by allowing them to reduce their membership fee.

The ASAM standardization work group finishes multiple cross-test events to ensure interoperability of commercial test tools based upon the ASAM XIL 2.0.1 Standard, effectively enabling engineers in the automotive industry to choose and easily integrate best-in-class ECU testing tools for their application scenarios.

The European-based standardization organization ASAM e.V. and the US-based organization SAE International have agreed to enter a Cooperative Partnership. Main goal of this partnership is to better serve the needs of their members, to avoid duplicative standardization, and to promote standardization globally.

ASAM hosted an international conference on test and development processes for autonomous driving. More than 200 experts and managers discussed how to master the challenges that future versions of ADAS and autonomous driving systems may pose. The collaboration with the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport made it possible to bring industry, research and public institutions together to share their ideas and experience.

After recent allegations against German car manufacturers, ASAM would like to state how standardization and information sharing is handled within the ASAM setting. Therefore, ASAM has drafted an ASAM Compliance Statement.

ASAM is streamlining processes to capture new standardization topics in the automotive industry. Therefore, ASAM is gathering ideas to be published and openly debated on a future ideation page of the ASAM website. The ultimate goal ist to bring ideas forward to the standardization process.
