To provide a platform for passionate members to jointly develop standards that accelerate the development of vehicles
ASAM (Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems) is a non-profit organization that promotes standardization for tool chains in automotive development and testing. Our members are international car manufacturers, suppliers, tool vendors, engineering service providers and research institutes from the automotive industry. ASAM coordinates work groups, composed of experts from our member companies, with the goal to develop technical standards that enable the easy exchange of data or tools within a tool chain. ASAM is the legal ‘owner’ of these standards and responsible for their distribution and marketing.
We pursue the vision that tools of a development process chain can be freely interconnected and data can be seamlessly exchanged.
To accomplish this vision, ASAM provides a platform for experts to address challenges that require standardization and to interconnect members with the same interest. Our active community comprising more than 200 ASAM member companies ensures that ideas with market relevance will progress and nourish new standardization projects.

ASAM was founded in December 1998 by a group of passionate and visionary experts who exchanged technical ideas, drove standardization and laid out road maps for future standardization of interfaces for the development and testing of ECUs. The fast growing membership and the increasing number of standards developed within ASAM were proof of the importance of standardization.
Although now grown into an international organization, ASAM has preserved its personal and visionary character. Until today, the standards are developed by experts recruited from our member companies. It is the same passion and commitment of our members that continue to drive standardization.
ASAM is distinguishing itself not only by a passionate and dedicated membership, but also by its short development cycles and the high quality of its standards.
Our standards define protocols, data models, file formats and application programming interfaces (APIs) for the use in the development and testing of automotive electronic control units. They enable users to easily integrate tools and ASAM compliant products into their existing tool chain and to seamlessly exchange data with clients and development partners. This ultimately reduces costs and saves development time.
ASAM can rely on an expertise of more than 200 member companies worldwide. They bring in their knowledge and experience and work together to overcome challenges in non-competitive areas. Each expert, members and their ASAM compliant products )OEM, supplier, tool vendor or service provider, strengthens the work group by contributing different use cases and requirements which in the end improve the results. The numerous tool vendors in our association ensure that there is a great number of ASAM-compliant products which easily integrate into your existing system environment. (Learn more about our
ASAM standards are broadly accepted and trusted by the industry. A large amount of popular tools in the areas ofsimulation, measurement, calibration, and test automation are compliant to ASAM standards. More than 90% of all road vehicles are calibrated with ASAM standards. The large German OEMs have committed themselves to develop new platforms using ASAM diagnostics. ASAM test data management standards are used by most OEMs worldwide.
