ASAM is responding to the growing number of international members. New ASAM statutes and a revised standardization process shall facilitate particpation by members abroad.
The General Assembly (formerly called Membership Meeting) has changed the ASAM statutes that have been in effect since April 20, 2001. Doing so, the ASAM community has responded to the growing number of international members and activities that have recently been going on.

With these amendments, the ASAM community has set a clear statement that it wants to push internationalization forward and that it recognizes the standardization efforts in the US and Japan. Already the General Assembly 2016 had been streamed online allowing members from abroad to join the meeting.
Other important issues of this assembly were the new elections of the Technical Steering Committee (TSC) for the term 2016 - 2018. and the introduction of the modernized standardization process. The new process aims to facilitate globalized Standard development and to improve quality assurance. An additional ideation phase shall guarantee that needs for standardization are detected early.
