The standardization organization ASAM e.V. and the Chinese state-owned company CATARC Automotive Data Center jointly launch an initiative to promote the use of ASAM standards in the Chinese automotive industry and to support the development of new ASAM standards as well as the further development of existing ASAM standards according to Chinese requirements. To achieve these goals, a joint organization "C-ASAM" was founded.

BMW Group and ASAM e.V. have signed an agreement to further develop the OSI (Open Simulation Interface) Format Specification under the auspices of ASAM. OSI describes a generic interface to sensor models and driving simulators. It is used for the virtual test and Validation of highly automated driving functions. With OSI, ASAM is taking steps towards a modern standardization process by using agile, open source software development methods for a greater acceptance within the industry.

After the Standard OpenDRIVE® (description of road networks) was transferred to ASAM e.V. in September 2018, the contracts to transfer OpenCRG® (description of road surfaces) and OpenSCENARIO® (description of participant behavior) were signed end of October. With this act, the formats for both static and dynamic contents for driving Simulation applications are now under the auspices of ASAM. International Simulation experts have already discussed important requirements for the further development of the so called “OpenX Standards” during Kick-off Workshops hosted by ASAM.

ASAM e.V. Adopts Standards for Highly Automated Driving

The standardization organization ASAM e.V. will adopt several standards for the Validation of highly-automated driving. OpenDRIVE® is the first Standard that has now been transferred into ASAM. It constitutes the new ASAM standardization domain „Simulation” and will be continued under the name of ASAM OpenDRIVE. The standards OpenCRG® and OpenSCENARIO® will follow within the next months. The transfer of these standards into ASAM ensures their independent, long-term development and maintenance in a professional setting. At the same time, it allows ASAM to position itself in the area of highly automated driving.
