Managing ASAM MDF4 with ASAM ODS

Proposal Workshop II: Further Development of the Standards MDF and ODS

Purpose of the Workshop:

This proposal workshop is a follow-up from the last workshop on the general topic of interaction between MDF and ODS. The primary goal of "Managing MDF 4 with ODS: Further Development of the Standards MDF and ODS" from July 05 at BMW was to come to an agreement among the participating experts about how the standards ASAM MDF and ASAM ODS shall be further developed with the goal to make the data in MDF files more easily accessible in ODS-compliant tools.

Mr. Schaap from HighQSoft prepared a detailed analysis of interoperability problems between MDF and ODS, and made proposals how to overcome these. Mr. Schneider from Vector made a proposal how to enhance MDF for fast ODS server access. You can download the presentations from the links in the agenda.

Next Steps

Results:

The participating experts agreed to start a minor version development project for ASAM MDF. The new version shall be backward-compatible and enhance ASAM MDF by a channel-oriented storage of Measurement data. Furthermore, the definition of invalidation bits shall be jointly revised by experts from both the ODS and MDF project groups.

Most of the proposals on the further development of ASAM ODS focus on improving the alignment with the data representations of MDF. Many of these proposals have already been accepted by the current ODS 6.0 project group and will be implemented this year. Those proposals, which cannot be implemented in version 6.0 will be documented in the ASAM change request system and considered for implementation in later releases of the ODS Standard.
