Managing ASAM MDF4 with ASAM ODS
MDF files may use features of the ASAM MDF 4 Standard, which cause technical problems when being accessed by an ODS server. ASAM has conducted two workshops and invited experts of ASAM MDF and ASAM ODS to identify these problems, discuss potential solutions and define requirements to further develop both standards if necessary:
At the 1. workshop "Requirements and Solutions" from May 12, 2016 at BMW, the participants discussed common problems and agreed on multiple measures to improve the current situation. The most important result of the meeting was that the majority of participants agreed on developing a virtual file system server component, which provides encapsulated access to MDF files for ODS servers. Any kind of transformation or reordering of the MDF data is done by this component. The Measurement data is then presented to the ODS server in an optimized format.

At the 2. workshop "Further Development of the Standards MDF and ODS" from July 05, 2016, the standardization experts from the MDF and ODS project groups met to come to an agreement to further develop the standards ASAM MDF and ASAM ODS with the goal to make the data in MDF files more easily accessible for ODS-compliant tools. The group agreed to start a minor version development project for ASAM MDF, which includes the new feature of channel-oriented storage. Furthermore, they reviewed and discussed required changes for ASAM ODS, with some of them already scheduled for version 6.0 of the Standard.
