The creation of a harmonized regulatory framework is the central prerequisite for connected and automated driving and the deployment of higher automated driving functions. Legislation must keep pace with technical developments, otherwise important innovations in automated and fully automated driving will not make it onto the road safely. In addition, legal certainty is a prerequisite for the acceptance and trust of fully automated driving in society. This presentation will illustrates recent efforts and identifies legal gaps for an adequate operational safety of connected and automated vehicles.
