Using Operational Design Domain for safe AI in Urban Air Mobility

Urban Air Mobility is a new segment in aviation that is based on intelligent and highly interconnected aircrafts which will need safe AI-components. Hence, ODD provides great potential for these upcoming AI-based safety critical systems. This implies to transfer the application of ODD from the automotive field to aviation. This presentation describes a systematic approach for extracting scenarios from concept of operations to capture specific operational ranges and limitations to define an ODD and sets the baseline to develop adaptive ODD to further increase the robustness and failure tolerance in the future.
