The time to market requirements and testing efforts for autonomous driving make it impossible to test everything on the road. The solution to this bottleneck is virtual Validation which allows early integration tests in software-in-the-loop (SIL) scenarios. Shifting test efforts to earlier test phases by using Simulation is key to solve the autonomous driving challenge. This effect can be maximized by scaling out simulations to the cloud, which is why many OEMs and suppliers are currently considering cloud computing as a technological enabler for their Validation strategy. Together with this development, several challenges are arising, from technology over processes up to business aspects. Classical tools for Simulation and testing must be made “cloud capable”, and the way how the software is delivered changes. End users on the OEM and supplier side do not receive just installation media and install the software tools on their PC. Instead, they must much deeper interact with their IT departments, that provide or even operate the cloud environment to the end user. And finally, new parties are incorporated in the business relationships and new business models evolve. This presentation talks about the necessity to migrate Validation tasks into the cloud, shows the potential and challenges of cloud based Validation and how these challenges can be addressed.
