Virtual Validation is becoming an essential part of development processes of highly autonomous driving (HAD) functions. Standards for model and system interchange are vital for cross-company and cross-domain virtual integration and Simulation of HAD functions. Viewed in the context of SmartSE and industry projects like PEGASUS, an overview of current and upcoming standards like FMI, SSP, and the “OpenX at ASAM e.V.” is given, showcasing current possibilities, challenges and future directions, as well as a vision on the future collaboration between interested parties. Furthermore a preview on the future eco system is given in the context of the upcoming German research project “Set Level 4to5”, as well as the idea for a common marketplace for Simulation data and models.

"Data is the new gold" – The difference between data and gold is that the latter has a clear definition in the periodic table. It is unique to all, whereas the value of data lies in its structuring and common interpretation, such as a Word file with an English text in its syntax and semantics. In the context of the worldwide standardization of "OpenX" for scenarios, maps, models, materials, geometries/buil-dings and others for virtual testing & Validation, the goal of overarching uniqueness is developed.

However, there is an unsolved problem: The existence of a Standard for the description of digital maps does not solve their availability. There is a lack of transparency in the market, whereby the implementation of a Standard is endangered and the costs for the procurement of the described data are high.
The success of the distribution of the MP3 format can be used as an analogy. The costs for music, the simplicity of its procurement and its compatibility with playback devices were driven to a large extent by platforms such as iTunes or Spotify. Market participants were brought together there, but with the effect of creating central "global players".

The aim is to anchor the rules for worldwide trade and the idea of a "Distributed Marketplace for Simulation Data and Models" in the ASC-S. The aim is to create a global marketplace for the Simulation of data and models. These are to be established for a trusting exchange in a non-profit organization, just as the standards taken as a basis are bundled in a non-profit (ASAM e.V.). The separation between ASC-S and ASAM should correspond to a strategic element against potential centralization of power structures and the separation of format and marketing. The ASC-S aims at this with the ENVITED Marketplace.
