The increasing deployment of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems in off-road industries, including construction, mining, agriculture, defense, and consumer recreation, creates a demand for Simulation standards that address the vehicle, terrain, and scenario requirements for off-road applications. There is a significant overlap in the use cases for ASAM OpenX standards across on-road ADAS/AD and off-road domains. However, off-road scenarios often involve highly variable conditions, complex vehicle definitions, and challenging environmental factors that differ significantly from on-road scenarios. Extending existing ASAM standards to adequately address these needs will deliver significant benefits, including enhanced interoperability among Simulation tools, consistent feature support for diverse scenarios, and improved reliability of off-road vehicle development and Validation processes.
The project 'ASAM OpenX standards in offroad applications' looked at two general use cases for ground vehicles operating in off-road environments and identified key considerations and requirements for modeling and Simulation. These use cases are:
As a next step, the recommendations from the concept will be realized within the ASAM OpenX PoC project. The enrollment will start soon on the ASAM development platform GitLab. Stay tuned!

unique and complex requirements inherent in off-road vehicle simulations.
