The Technical University of Darmstadt is participating in ASAM e. V. with two institutes. The Institute of Automotive Engineering (FZD) and the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Powertrain Systems (vkm), both within the Department of Mechanical Engineering:
The Institute of Automotive Engineering (FZD) comprises more than 20 scientific assistants. Head of institute is Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hermann Winner. Research fields of FZD are different directions of automated driving, esp. on validation of safety, motorcycle safety, chassis systems, and new driving simulator concepts.
The Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Powertrain Systems (vkm) has about 70 employees, 20 of them scientific assistants. Head of institute is Prof. Dr. Christian Beidl. There are 12 dynamic engine test beds, 3 of them with hybrid simulation systems and 6 of them with RDE simulation system. Main topics are: Electrification of drivetrain systems and operating staretgy, methology and simulation, exhaust aftertreatment and RDE investigations, ICE optimization, e-fuels and alternative fuels.
