ASAM CMP (Capture Module Protocol)
Proposal Workshop
on: Dec 12, 2024 | 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm CET
ASAM is planning to further develop ASAM CMP, a Standard that defines the communication between capture modules (probes) and data sinks to monitor in-vehicle bus communication and sensor data. A proposal workshop took place on Dec 12, 2024 with the goal to collect, discuss and prioritize all requirements (e.g. MIPI image format) for a new version of the Standard and define the next steps. Below, please find the presented information and meeting minutes:
About ASAM CMP
ASAM CMP defines the communication between capture modules and data sinks and is transported over Ethernet. The Standard describes the mapping rules for vehicle bus communication and sensor data. The CMP messages can be stored directly in the receiver (e.g., data sink), or it can be further broken down and analyzed.
ASAM CMP 1.0.0 was released in 2022 and supports
- data messages
- status messages and
- control messages
Version 1.0.0 mainly focuses on capturing in-vehicle communication data via capture modules. Besides communication protocols (e.g., CAN or LIN) and sensor buses (e.g. SPI or I2C), it also supports interfaces for LIDAR, radar and cameras. The captured data is transferred from the capture modules to the data sinks via the ASAM CMP protocol. The capturing in the capture modules is remotely controlled by the data sinks.
The upcoming project shall work on
- the replay of data (V1.0.0 only coveres the capturing of the data)
- capturing the beacon timestamp of ethernet in shared medium networks (multidrop)
- the support of TSN preemption (e.g. via raw logging)
