ASAM CMP (Capture Module Protocol)
Proposal Workshop
on: Dec 12, 2024 | 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm CET
ASAM CMP defines the communication between capture modules (probes) and data sinks to monitor in-vehicle bus communication and sensor data. It is transported over Ethernet. ASAM CMP describes the mapping rules for vehicle bus communication and sensor data. The CMP messages can be stored directly in the receiver (e.g., data sink), or it can be further broken down and analyzed.
ASAM CMP 1.0.0 was released in 2022 and supports
- data messages
- status messages and
- control messages
Version 1.0.0 mainly focuses on capturing in-vehicle communication data via capture modules. Besides communication protocols (e.g., CAN or LIN) and sensor buses (e.g. SPI or I2C), it also supports interfaces for LIDAR, radar and cameras. The captured data is transferred from the capture modules to the data sinks via the ASAM CMP protocol. The capturing in the capture modules is remotely controlled by the data sinks.
While ASAM CMP 1.0.0 is covering the capturing of data, it does not cover the replay of data. This is what the new project will focus on. The project will clarify which data message type the feature shall support and which other boundary conditions are to be taken into account.
Next to this topic, the project will define:
- Capturing the beacon timestamp of ethernet in shared medium networks (multidrop)
- Support of TSN preemption (e.g. via raw logging)
At this proposal workshop, we will collect, discuss and prioritize all requirements (e.g. MIPI image format) for a new version of the Standard and define the next steps.
