SAE On-Board Diagnostics Symposium Americas
Talk by Bernd Wenzel, Senior Technical Consultant at ASAM e.V.
on: Sep 08 - 11, 2025 | Garden Grove, CA, USA
Bernd Wenzel, Senior Technical Consultant at ASAM e.V. and ASAM SOVD expert, presents "ASAM OTX Extension for ASAM SOVD - Usage of the ASAM SOVD API in test sequences" at SAE On-Board Diagnostics Symposium.
ASAM OTX Extensions define a domain-specific programming language designed to describe test procedures. It enables consistent development, maintenance and sharing of test sequences across different lifecycle stages, incl. development, production and service. In recent months, this project group has worked on two key extensions: one for ASAM SOVD and one for JSON. This lecture will explain the concepts behind these extensions and illustrate how they define datatype exceptions, terms, and actions.
The extension for ASAM SOVD is based on the following approaches:
- The ASAM SOVD extension is based on the ASAM OTX extension for JSON.
- OTX StructureSegments simplifies the usage of JsonObjects.
With the newly available ASAM OTX extension for ASAM SOVD, diagnostic sequences can be defined according to the ISO OTX Specification and realization concept, including graphical authoring support.
The lecture will conclude with a status update on the ongoing development of both standards ASAM SOVD and ASAM OTX Extensions.

About SAE On-Board Diagnostics Symposium
The SAE On-Board Diagnostics Symposium explores the most pressing technical and regulatory issues shaping on-board Diagnostics today - spanning light- and heavy-duty on-road applications, off- road diesel systems, and electrified vehicles. The focus is on both traditional internal combustion powertrains and the evolving needs of electrified powertrains
