ASAM ODS Cross Test 2014
The ASAM ODS Cross Test 2014 took place in Munich on November 12-13. Seven manufacturers of ASAM ODS compatible client applications and five manufacturers of ASAM ODS servers followed the invitation of the work group to meet at the BMW Group Training Academy to test the interoperability of their products based on the current ASAM ODS version 5.3.
ASAM ODS Cross Tests include the testing of different client-server combinations to ensure that customer implementations based on the ASAM ODS Standard work seamlessly. The Cross Tests are carried out on a regular basis and offer participating companies the opportunity to verify and improve their software in real life scenarios.
Increasing recognition of ASAM ODS
The demand of ASAM ODS is growing steadily. Respectively, the number of ASAM compliant tools is increasing: This year, five new products have been tested, among them three new ODS servers, thus doubling the number of servers available on the market.
The international recognition of ASAM ODS is also increasing: This year, companies from Greece and India joined the cross test, and for the first time UTF-8 data samples from Japan were included in the test catalog. All this is proof that ASAM ODS has become an industry-wide established Standard for test data management.
Procedure
The first day aimed at examining the interaction of individual products, while the second day focused on a list of systematic function tests between clients and servers. The results of the different tests were discussed within the group, giving each participant an opportunity to understand potential interoperability issues and find a Standard-compliant solution. As a consequence, the participating products are less likely to show interoperability issues once they are being used by end users.
ASAM Cooperation Principles
The Cross Test thrives on the openness of the participants to compare implementation details of the ASAM ODS Standard in rivaling products and to share their knowledge on the Standard. This work style is one of the success factors for all ASAM standards and their implementation in real products. The cooperative spirit during these two days made this ASAM ODS Cross Test a successful event.
Special thanks go to the BMW Group for their excellent organization of the event!
