ASAM endeavors the next step in introducing Big-Data features into ASAM ODS. Based on the assumption that future ODS-based systems shall be usable with Hadoop-clusters, the standard will be extended with ODS-specific schemata and rules for popular open-source file formats. The base standard will be further improved and the next cross test shall be prepared. The standardization project group plans to carry out the following specification activities:

  • Definition of Parquet files for storing mass data
  • Definition of AVRO files for storing mass data (optional)
  • Definition of JSON files for application model data as an input to indexing services
  • Description of handling ODS data in Hadoop clusters
  • Handling of reported issues and feature requests for the base standard

The new file formats shall become part of companion standards for ASAM ODS and will be validated in a proof-of-concept implementation by a service provider prior to release. As this project is quite ambitious with respect to content and time schedule, the work will be divided up into several sub-groups, where members can bring in their special expertise.
