ASAM MDF is a widely accepted standard for storing measurement data in an efficient, binary format. The primary goal of this project is to improve access to MDF file for ODS servers and data post-processing tools.
As part of a wider initiative at ASAM to increase compatibility between the standards ASAM ODS and ASAM MDF, experts from ASAM agreed to further develop ASAM MDF with new features or changes that allow faster access to data within MDF files and to align deviating specifications between both standards. In particular, the following changes have been proposed:
- Define a way of storing data in a column oriented way, which would allow faster reading of individual signals.
- Clarify the semantics of the current invalidation bit in MDF, synchronize the meaning with ASAM ODS and check potential compatible extensions.
- Potentially fix any further bugs encountered during the development work.
