How it works

This ideation platform allows members and non-members to address topics and questions that may benefit from standardization. Visit this site regularly to check for new ideas.

How Ideation Works at ASAM

The convergence of the automotive markets with new trends in digitation, autonomous driving, alternative propulsion, and vehicle as a service as enabled by new IT business models provides many new technical concepts that can be standardized in ASAM. Standardization requires three components:

  • A technical concept
  • A market need for the standard
  • Passonate, technical experts who convene at reguaral intervals to define the requirements and the implementation

To make sure that these three requirements are met, ASAM has launched this ideation platform.

Submit your Idea, Exchange Requirements - Globally

Technical experts from all over the globe can post concepts and ideas, receive feedback, and drive new standardization topics. This is how it works:

  1. Send an email with your concept, idea, question or feedback to ideation(at)asam.net
  2. The ASAM Office will contact you to clarify the details (or answer your questions)
  3. It must be investigated if there are any other standards or standardization projects in that area
  4. The ASAM Office will then post the mutually agreed concept
  5. ASAM Members world-wide will be able to comment on the idea, and enroll in an ideation project

When enough interest is raised (subject to suitable market relevance), ASAM will host a workshop to further develop the topic. If required, an ideation project is being set-up that will meet regularly. The final goal is to transfer the idea into the regular Standards Development Process

FAQs

In order to transfer an idea into the regular standards development process, ASAM requires 'enough' interest in a potential standard. In order to guarantee that a potential standard will be applied, ASAM requires that at least two OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers will get involved. If personal attendance by these groups is not possible, ASAM requires that these OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers provide a 'Letter of Interest' that confirms their interest in and need for the standard. The proposal submitter and the participating experts are asked to support ASAM in making the topic public and finding fellow experts, OEMs and Tier-1s who are interested and willing to join a future project group.

Example: Letter of Interest

While the ASAM Office cannot be a technical expert in every topic, the ASAM Office can help with the following tasks:

  • organization of first meetings
  • communication of idea and concept to the ASAM memberhsip worldwide
  • structured communication with and periodic reporting to the Technical Steering Committee
  • provide tools (WebEx, SVN, and other collaboration tools) for the development of the standard
  • assist with expenses related to the development of standards
  • finding outside support resources when required

All ASAM members are invited to submit their ideas. If you are not a member, you can be sponsored by a person who is ASAM member. This means that the ASAM member can recommend your idea and invite you to be part of the ideation group. In this case, the sponsoring person must send an email to ideation(at)asam.net and let us know your idea or feedback, your name and business email address. We will then set up an account for you.

All ASAM members are invited to take part in ideation groups. If you are not a member, you can be sponsored by a person who is ASAM member. This means that the ASAM member can recommend you to take part in an ideation group. In this case, the sponsoring person must send an email to ideation(at)asam.net and let us know your name and business email address. We will then put you on the list of participants.

Please note: Once the project enters the regular standardization development process, an ASAM membership will be required to further participate.
