ASAM CPX provides an application-specific extension to ISO OTX (ISO 13209). It enables programmatic access to calibration and measurement data on the ECU, access to meta information about this data (from A2L files), functions for controlling the execution of measurement tests and simulation models, and specific mathematical functions. ISO OTX and ASAM CPX combined give the automotive industry a comprehensive language and exchange format, which allow to specify the ECU calibration processes in detail and to freely exchange this knowledge.

ASAM has recently released the new standard ASAM MCD-2 CERP (Calibration Expert System Rule and Product Format). The standard is based upon OTX (ISO 13209) and allows to develop complex rules for checking the dependencies and integrity of ECU calibration parameters. The standard shall improve the quality of the calibration data via automated checks already at an early stage in the calibration lifecycle. This way it improves the communication between software development, control loop design, calibration, test and quality assurance.

The standardization work group has collected feedback from different users and application domains to learn how the new standard established in their daily business. This revision release provides a quick solution for maintenance issues, so that tool vendors can quickly use them for standard-compliant implementations.
In a second step, a minor version release is foreseen that will consider the incorporation of requested features or feature changes into the standard. This second step is still ongoing. (Learn more)

The parameter values used in Electronic Control Units were transferred between different tools and stored separated from the parameter description. CDF is widely used as format to do this. As the parameter description (ASAP2) is currently being extended (V1.7) it is necessary to adapt the parameter value description according to it.

During this project, the existing CDF standard shall be extended to support the new ASAP2 parameter descriptions (BLOB, MODEL_LINK, ATOMIC_ACCESS) and minor issues within MCD2 MC V1.6.1 shall be corrected. The new version of CDF (V2.1.0) shall be downward compatible to V2.0.0 and shall be based on MSRSW V3.0.

The overall goal of further developing the ASAM XCP standard is to improve interoperability between the calibration tool and XCP slaves. The changes can be subdivided into enhancements of XCP commands and responses as well as a more precise description how the XCP specification shall be interpreted. Primary objectives for the revised standard are to implement improvements in the accuracy of time synchronization to other XCP slaves or external data sources, better defined handling of XCP states in master- and slave controllers connected via external hardware interfaces and improvements in bypassing stability for XCP on Ethernet. Secondary objectives are to discuss the capability of XCP masters to detect all slaves via XCP on Ethernet, how to configure external hardware interfaces and potential support for DAQ packet concatenation. The revised standard shall be backward compatible to ASAM XCP 1.2.

ASAM ODS Pre-Project: Determine a substitute-technologie for CORBA (FVD)

The Client Server Communication in the current ODS 5.3 standard has been defined to use CORBA. But CORBA will be not or poorly supported by newer Software standards (for example MS .NET). This project will enumerate alternative technologies for communication between clients and servers and will rate them. The Project will assort, which technologies for client server communication are available. These technologies have to be rated. One criterion is the availability at most platforms (Windows, Unix, Linux, MAC…,Java, Python, C#, C++, HTML,…) and one criterion is the performance for passing attribute values and measured bulk data. Benchmarks have to be defined, to compare the performance against the existing CORBA communication too. This may require a second project phase (with corresponding budget) to implement the benchmarks in case such work requires a significant amount of manpower. The result of this project will be the base for the API of the next ODS main release.

This project has evolved in P2015-03 ASAM ODS V6.0.0

ASAM ODS Pre-Project: Introduce UML and XML for Data Model Descriptions (FVD)

Until now the ODS base model has been defined by a Step Express file. In this project the base model shall be defined by a XML file. Until now ODS application models are described by ATF files or database structures. In this project the application model shall be described by UML and be prepared for a transfer into ATFX through UML/XMI. In the past ideas came up to define the ODS base model by XML, as XML files nowadays are much easier to parse than Step Express files. This project will take up these ideas and will try to find a way, to define the ODS base model in all details by an XML file. A tool shall be implemented to support the transformations between these representations. In a second part of this project a way to describe the application model with UML shall be examined. UML allows to graphically create and present data models. This makes it much easier to understand a model than from a pure textual description. Especially for the numerous available and upcoming ODS application models such representation will ease development, discussion and exchange of models. A tool chain support from the UML diagram through UML/XMI towards a valid atfx model file can be considered, though such development is not covered within this project. This project shall only serve as a platform for discussing the technical issues of such approaches. If solutions arise that are considered useful, a complete specification is needed. Such specification is not covered within this project but will be created within the context of the next FVD and release process of ODS.

The results of this project were incorporated in P2014-01 ASAM ODS V5.3.1 (MAIN)

The project aims to develop a standard mechanism inside ASAM MCD-2 MC to enable a transformation from ECU-internal calibration data (highly optimized for execution) to human readable, virtual calibration labels. As this transformation is complex and involves company-specific IP, the standard shall only describe a call to an external transformation function, and otherwise shall not expose the actual transformation rules. Furthermore, several minor issues of the standard shall be corrected.

ASAM XIL V2.0.0 was released in 2013. This version has been significantly extended: the test bench port interface has been modified and a framework interface introduced. The connection between the framework variable and the test bench variable is realized via a mapping concept. The variables are also used for measuring from different data sources. 
A lot of functionality is offered for the treatment of values inside the framework and inside the test cases. Therefore ASAM offered open source software. The configuration of test bench and framework side was standardized and the life cycle of the different test bench ports unified.
This project's aim is to collect feedback from the different users and application domains, to see how the new standard version established in daily business.
